Hi guys
Do any of you use any kind of water softener or purifier on your hose to stop water marks
I'm particulary anal when it comes to cleaning my chim, but trying to squeegy and then chamois it whilst washing is a real pain and as swindon's quite a hard water area, my car looks terrible if I miss even the smallest bit
Can anyone recommend a product ?
Cheers
Graeme

You can use the aqua wax type products, as they put a layer of wax on the car that stops the limescale from sticking. I spray it on with a garden sprayer after the car is washed clean. Works a treat.

You can fit a water softener, think it costs around £250 but not sure.

Alternatively, wash sections of your car at a time then rinse and dry before moving on. This will cut most of your water marks.

A water softener will take out the limescale, but then you have salt residue to deal with. Best to use a resin tank to filter the water or a reverse osmosis system.

Not true: The salt in a softener is only used for the regeneration process of the resin. Therefore you don't usually get salt in the softened water. I wash my car using water that is softened (our water is just as hard as Swindon in the Wokingham area) and don't suffer salt marks. In fact it was one of the handy side effects of me installing the softener last year. smile

1. Throw away the chamois and get a couple of microfibre drying towels:

2. Buy a bottle of this:

and a couple of these:

3. Wash the car as normal, dry with the towels, and then spray on the detailer and buff dry with the cloth.

Plenty of products on the market to cure it, but if you want the cheapest and easiest answer, a either wash your car when it is pissing it down with rain or b use your water butt to rinse the car off with!

As Miniman says, use a couple of drying towels. One to get most of the water off and the second to completely dry. You'll be able to dry the whole car in 5 minutes tops.
And throw the squegee away, unless you want to get a ladder and do the house.biggrin
