How much does it cost to get one of these drain companies to stick their little fibre optic camera down your drain and have a look if it's collapsed, blocked, etc assuming the drain has already been rodded and cleared out?

Surprisingly google reveals nothing suggesting they'll want a fortune

However, I can buy this for £179 so...

So once you've got that would you know what to look for ?
That's what you pay the pros for I guess.

out of interest, how long is the cable on that £179 one? Wouldn't it need to be several metres to do a full survey, hence the inflated cost of the pros?

I paid about £120 inc VAT and a copy of the DVD to keep for posterity when I had it done a couple of years ago (London)

CCTV drain surveys are usually capable of 100m+. Your fleabay borescope probably won't let you see further than what you get to see just by opening a manhole!

the drains are about 2-3m long in a straight line between traps, I'm not looking to have them mapped in 3d or anything, just a poke down the drain and confirmation of what I suspect. I could probably do it just looking up the drain in one of the traps but I don't want to climb in there hehe

as for what I'd do with the above camera once I'd checked the drain, well, I'd rent it out for colonoscopies

that or pretend I'm Sam Fisher hehe

We had a survey done quite a few years back when selling a house. I can't remember how much we paid, but I do remember the company offered to reline the pipe with a plastic liner for some crazy price that was twice the price a local builder charged to dig up and re-lay the original clay pipe and concrete over.

What do you suspect? And how about using a torch and looking inside?

I have a feeling it's collapsed between the first trap and the one that empties out into the main drain. I can probably look up it with a torch but as I said, I'd have to climb into the thing hehe

Shouldn't be too big a problem from our end, it's if the neighbours drain gets any use whilst I'm down there!

Well, £179 is a lot to avoid getting your wellies wet. If its collapsed not much flow will get past it will back up and fill the manhole when its raining.

Who was that with out of interest? Didn't use the one I mentioned above as I thought it was a bit steep.

I got them to replace a whole run of pipe and replace/install 2 runs off of that which also included breaking and disposing of the concrete plinth and lowering the manhole cover.

Did a fantastic job, reasonably priced and def got what i paid for. Wouldn't use anyone else.

Say Andy from Haywards Farm House recommended him and he hopefully will do a bit cheaper for you. smile

If it's shared then from today they're probably the responsibility of your local water utility company.

For some reason, I'm suddenly thinking it's a shame I didn't get them to burn a DVD of my colonoscopy. Just for sts and giggles.

I can highly recommend these guys if you are in the Midlands area. I have used them a few times, never more than £100 and very friendly - for a drain guy !!
