The nice American actor wants to buy my car, I don't know why he wants a UK spec car, but he is not in town presently (obviously, because he's acting in the USA).

He would like to pay with PayPal, and he will arrange his shipping agent to collect the car.

Excellent, but seriously, it's about time to have some fun with these email scam idiots.

Does the PH Borg Collective have any ideas about how to string the idiot along?

Would it be wrong to open a PayPal account especially for this purpose, or will that just open a can of worms?

Why? I don't imagine the odd email from people trying to be clever is much more than a mild inconvenience.

I doubt the scammers are as dumb as they seem either. The overheads of these scams are practically nil so every unfortunate person they successfully relieve of money provides them with 100% profit. Sure, almost nobody falls for these things but when the perpetrators are spamming thousands and thousands of individuals around the world, even a fractional success rate makes it worthwhile from their point of view.

The most 'successful' car-related case I heard of involved an M3 CSL and £30k. The former didn't exist and the latter was never seen again (although I think that particular scam was slightly more believable than usual). I'm sure someone will have a link to the story.

Ask him what he's been in and gush about him being an actor. Ask if you can set up a fan website...

I had told him I didn't have PayPal, and presumed he'd gone away.

But he's come back, explaining to me how to open a PayPal account.

I guess I could get into some bother if I opened one in a false name couldn't I?

I have entered into a similar deal with a rather nice man from Nigeria.

The Reverend Ugumbu has contacted me, and the outcome of the conversations we have had, is, that I am transferring £150/month to the Reverand.

But I dont know if the Reverend is aware, but in return for this, I will soon be receiving £121 million pounds.

So, who's having the last laugh.
