Cerby str8 6 engine builds
Discussion
Having virtually got the car, i have enquired to Joospeed about servicing. They have asked my if the engine has been recently rebuilt??? I haven't the foggiest, but they said the Str8 Six version has to be rebuilt every two years and the only place they do this is at TVR racing - Coventry for £4500!!!!
Is this true, are there any other Speed Sixers out there???! Please tell me this isn't so!

Probably worth taking a look here.

I don't think Joospeed currently service speed 6 cars.

I can't believe that Joolz said that! I know that he had his doubts over the S6 but I thought he was now a fan. I think you must have misunderstood.
Doubt Joolz would say anything like that. Even if he was joking he wouldnt have. I think you have misinterpereted something???
Two years is silly, they dont have timers on them, it depends on (mis)use/bad luck/mileage. Also 4.5k is a rebuild cost if nothings wrong (burning money basically-pointless, if it aint broke dont fix) proper rebuilds can be double that...
Joospeed is an independant that prides itself on customer service of the highest standards and he simply wouldnt have a phone call about how a S6 needs rebuilds every 2 years - and certainly wouldnt scare off any potential/current owners with such talk.
Theres really been something missing from that chat seriously, he wouldnt have said that.

LMAO, that's not what i said at all!!
FFS .. if you're gonna quote me at least get it right.
what I *actually* said was:
stick with dealers / TVR Power for servicing.
if you are buying a car that *hasn't* had a rebuild in the last 18 months then be prepared to expect it needing one.
Get a warranty that covers claims up to 4-5k.
The latest spec engines appear to be very very good and a recently rebuilt engine is a plus point not a bad point.
the cars are very good when they are going well.
don't buy the wrong car, get TVR Power to check the car over before signing your money over.
What's the point of asking for advice if you make your own stuff up as you go along? *sheesh*
Sorry Joo, im quoting my Dad quoting you.
Basically the point is im only young un and im looking for a flash car for a couple of years while i can before i buy a house.
He did say that you dont touch Str8 6's though as far as servicing goes.
Don't worry he's been trying to put me off buying one anyhow. Who are TVR Power? how much it cost to get them to check it out?

Either way, what you said above only equated to the same thing. Virtually rebuilds every two years."If it hasn't been rebuilt in pas 18 months it will need to be soon". Doesn't this mean two years?
Besides if you no longer service S 6 then there aint ano point in buying as I aint ferrying the car any further a distance!

Doesn't appear to me to say the same thing as Joolz said at all.. The early S6s had problems and if you're looking at one of those thats not had major work, unless youare lucky, you should expect it.
While we are on the S6 reliability thing, I was horrified at Le Mans at the number of Cerberas and Tuscans that had nice cans on and were being revved like crazy from cold. I know I've made a fair bit of noise with mine on occaision, but not from cold. Any engine thats abused that way is going to blow and I for one have a mental list of cars I'll not even look at when I come to swap mine.

TVRs with S6 engines need to be looked after and somehow I can't see that happening here
