I know we have done this before but really.

I've become accustomed to dealers ignoring email. Today's latest variation though is the answer to a simple question as to whether the vehicle has service history? Ring back in 30 minutes.

I'm self employed and would never dream of asking a potential sale to ring back. Take the number and ring them back myself... It's not rocket science.

I think we must be making sales too easy for them.

Pah. Oh well, that's off my chest. Will I ring him back? Not sure, interested in the car, but a principle is now involved.

That's the point. I did phone, but was told to call back.

Surely common sense says take my name and number....

My current car was advertised on Pistonheads by a dealer. I sent an enquiring e-mail, five mins later he called, answered all my questions promptly and we agreed I would travel about 100 miles to view.

When I arrived, the kettle was on, nothing was too much trouble and all documentation was ready, neatly collated to view - I bought the car.

Over the next couple of days I was kept fully informed ref. New MOT (part of the deal) and he willingly agreed to le me collect at 06:00 to miss bank holiday traffic. Collection was followed up a day or two later by a text message thanking me for my business, asking if all was okay with the car and wishing me well.

Interestingly, this chap (a sole trader) has quite a turnover of cars on Pistonheads, ranging from about £5k to £50k plus, so he obviously sells well and has happy customers - I think I know why.

So some of them can get it right - the main dealer I used for subsequent service though is another matter!

Gap Specialist Cars - Paul Stansfield, a very pleasant chap who genuinely seems to understand customer service.
