Piston Specification

Hey guys,

I would like to eventually rebuild the engine in my Alfa GTV 3.0 V6. When I do I want to increase capacity to 3.5L

If I was to go to an Alfa specialist it will be about £3k for the Pistons, rings and liners. I tried a specialist piston manufacturer and, while cheaper, they will only do a minimum order of 12 but again it will be pretty expensive.

Does anybody know how I could find out the specs. of my pistons and then how would I figure out if there are off the shelf pistons that would give me the required increase??

Cheers Dave but thats the specialist charging £3k just for the parts. I have no doubt it is top quality kit but I'm just trying to see if I can keep costs down by buying off the shelf parts

If it's just pistons, Dave at Performance Unlimited could definitely have some made.

Certainly dont need to order 12. That would be a bit pointless for most people

Omega Pistons will do you 6 pistons no problem. We always use them, and their quality is the best.

What year is the alfa? Some of the V6s in alfas are from the same GM series of engines as the 2.8 saab/vauxhall unit and more interestingly for the 3.6 LY7 and later on 3.6 LLT engines used in many american GM products. You can pick one up with single figure milage for around $2000 so if you do some research you might find the you could swap in the shortblock even the whole engine if you wish. This could well work out cheaper than a rebuild that includes £3k worth of pistons.

Not just the pistons though, it's the liners, piston rings and head gaskets, all of which will need to be made up in the special size. £2500+ VAT doesn't actually seem that bad.
