So instead of driving to a tyre garage I'd rather call on the expertise of the PH folk.
I've just a kerb coming off a roundabout and knew I'd done something wrong.
Been greated by this

This is all I know that is wrong with the tyre at the moment.
Is it safe to drive with?
Fiancees dad says yes.

I believe that is just the curb protection not a proper part of the sidewall.

Sadly not. Been thinking of buying a spare alloy but i'm assuming it would be a bit heavier than the spacesaver that's in the boot at the moment.

Cut it off and carry on. Nothing to worry about there! But if you have a blow out and die don't blame me!

That's a bugger isn't it, looks like there's quite a bit of tread on that Conti!

Regs the spare alloy, if you're doing the whole steelies/winter tyre thing this year, you could always send your alloys for a refurb to get rid of the kerb mark(s) and shine them up a bit smile

It's only the rim protector, no worries as is, but don't cut it off!! Stick it back down with a dab of superglue, I jest not! It'll be noticable if you cut it off. Stick it back down and it looks nowhere near as bad.

I bought one of my current cars with exactly the same damage, it passed the MOT no worries and I have had no problem with it

As long as there is no bulge and no structure exposed it's fine.

It's an MO tyre. Mercedes OEM, not that it matters, I have them on my Z4M. Yeah, it's just the rim protector. As you were!

Got a cycle puncture repair kit? Rubber vulcanising solution is what you need.

I'm going to get most of the alloys refurbed end of the winter. 3 of the alloys were kerbed when I bought it so I will wait till the good weather comes back and refurb them then smile

Thanks for the reassurance people. Put my mind at ease. Will get the superglue out tomoro haha
