My fuel pump let go yesterday (the nice whirr replaced with lots of grinding/clackety noises, and then engine died) and I have a couple of quick questions:

1. Is a Walbro GSS340 the standard pump for the T350 (its a Jan 2005 registered, late 2004 built car) as I've just picked one up from a well known TVR supplier and it is completely different from my GSS340 pump? (spade connectors too small, smaller diameter pump body).

2. Inside the fuel tank, where does the fuel pipe go which comes off the T-Piece connector between fuel pump and the access cover at the top of the tank? It seems to go through into the main compartment of the tank, but must be under pressure from the pump, so whats at the other end? Or is it an extra pick-up from the main tank acting by a venturi effect as the main stream from the pump passes through the T-Piece? Not really important, but just curious.

By the way, the reason for the failure as far as I can make out is that the sock filter at the bottom of the pump fell off, letting in grot. I know this because it was lying at the opposite corner of the tank.... There isnt much in the way of bits in the bottom of the tank, but I guess anything getting into the pump is baaaad news.

Thought I'd answer my own question in case anyone searches in the future....

The T350 fuel pump is indeed a Walbro GSS340 unit.

As for the extra pipe within the tank, haven't got to the bottom of that one yet, but my current guess is a pressure relief system. Anyone know if this is right?

OK...is there an easy way to tell which one is broken other than trial and error (or starting the engine with the access cover off yikes ... maybe not)

In typical TVR fashion some T350s have a twin pump set-up and others have a single pump.

The single pump cars have a big white plastic unit which contains both the pump and the sender unit (Drivers side).

The twin pump set-up I am lead to believe is quite rare, there are two smaller pumps, one on each side of the tank. You have to remove the fuel filler hose, and pax side access cover to get to the 2nd pump. It took a few phone calls and photos e-mailed to Dom (TVRpower) to get a replacement sorted when mine failed. You can find the faulty pump as mentioned by supplying a 12v feed to the pump terminals.

I have had two pumps fail on me, the second time I replaced both pumps with BIG motorsport pumps. Bit of a job as I had to fabricate/modify new pump mounts and up-grade the in tank wiring. All worth while as my fuel pump set-up was about the only thing that didn't need upgrading to support my new engine.

I wouldn't recommend playing with the fuel tank and any electrics unless you are confident in what your doing - always empty the tank! and isolate the battery before opening the access hatches.

Kernow67 - if you want the details of the type of pumps I have installed and how I went about it, feel free to PM me.

interesting as i need to increase flows from my fuel pump.

I've not opened the tank yet, but have a connector on top with 2 live feeds, 2 earths, and other wires which i guess are fuel sender.

Sam, i ran out of pump on dyne at 6000, so may want to steal your ideas (again)!!

Steve,

If you just have the one pump, I have a spare T350 tank complete with the twin fuel pump set up to photo if you need the layout etc..

Dont think you would be able to retrofit without taking the tank off the car tho.

hmmm, is the second pump next to the first one? I've only one connector on the top of the tank, drivers side, so had assumed a single pump (being lazy i have not pulled it out to verify).

if so maybe I've one not working....

if anyone has pics of a single or twin setup so i know what I'm lookng at that would be fantastic

My T 350 has 2 pumps, I had to upgrade them to a higher flow rate when I had the engine re built. I also had an adjustable fuel pressure regulator fitted. The symptoms were similar to a previous post, whilst being re mapped on the RR it ran out of fuel at 6,000 RPM.

Yes. I have 2 small pumps though I can't determine what they are without removing them. I think power sell upgrade pumps but they indicate a 225 lpm for theirs

Any ideas what are fitted originally as I don't want to take them out to check just to reassemble and order new ones

Power Crazy Motorsport sourced an alternative high flow pump for my T 350 which was much better value, I will try and find out the make and model.
