1) Try comparison sites (Go Compare, Compare the Market, Confused.com, etc)
2) Add your parents as named additional drivers, but not as the main driver!
3) Lube up and expect a pounding!

Good luck!

Edited to say - Welcome to PistonHeads! beer

HAhahaha! biggrin

How old are you?

Ring up some classic insurance specialists first/last; my final quote was £951; price comparison thingys never beat £5k!

I'd have thought you're going to be having to phone around as the comparison sites won't be able to deal with the mods.

Don't even bother trying. Get a bike. Or tell your parents you're getting a bike, and do it if they wont pay your £10,000 premium on a car out of SHEER HORROR.

Don't hold your breath, insurers want £3k+ to cover little granny-mobiles. A modded landie with an engine swap is going to have them laughing down the phone at you, a sad fact of being young is that you can't really afford to drive unless your parents pay for it.

Get yourself a Renault Clio, automatic, p reg, 1.4, for £450 with tax and mot. I have one for sale, as it happens! Build up 9 years of no claims. Then use some Landrover (if you can afford fuel).

Why do you say don't bother, when the biodiesel is only costing him 14p/litre. Neat veg oil is at least 90p/litre...

OP - Best thing to do is to try and get it on a Classic Insurance Policy with limited mileage. Try Lancaster Insurance for a start point. That's who I use on my 90.

As it is a Landrover, try National Farmers Union Insurance, NFU, I have a few mates insured on FWD (none of them anything remotely to do with farming) with them. They are good with Land Rovers, and must be used to insuring younger people on farm machinery etc ... I think 16 is the legal age for a tractor....so they shouldn't be too shocked. Also re classic policy, have you checked via any of the Land Rover owners clubs ?
