Which diesel MB estate

Hi,

I am looking at the large estates, and 3 that come to the fore are as follows.

A MB estate, but don't know any thing about them yet.
A previous shape Mondeo estate, like a Ghia or Titanium
A Vectra, CDTi 150.

Sure the 3 cars are very different, and have very different price tags.
I would look for some thing around the years 2006 to 2009
I am not sure of the prices, but for sure, the Benze will be more expensive.

The Mondeo, and the Vectra, give good choice, and don't cost the earth for spares.

I have had Vectra's and Mondeo's
However, I have never had a Benze, but would like one.
Which one would suit, and why?

It depends how big you want it?

If you are comparing Vectra / Mondeo then it would have to be an E Class. I am running an ST220 estate and also a C Class estate. The Mondeo is bigger but in reality, unless you are carting around loads of gear the whole time, the Mercedes (same sort of style and size as an A4 / BMW 3 Series etc) is more than sufficient.

You do get the luxury car feel in the MB with a load of good equipment (Sat Nav, heated electric leather seats, Parktronic) and I have the amazingly good 3.0l V6 tdi which puts out 225bhp / 376lb ft of torque so goes well and still returns around 40 mpg.

The pre 2006 (I think) E Class was not built very well so I steered clear of them despite the good initial price.

Absolutely love my Merc E320 CDI Estate. Perfect on the motorway, dead comfy, quick as a quick thing going quickly, and room for either two large dogs or six teenagers. All the mechanics at my local garage love it and say it drives beautifully. However, this is one that you really, really want to keep on top of all the maintenance, or it will kill you.

Have a look at the previous shape Accord Tourer too. They're huge in the back, come very well equipped in EX spec and in 2.2 diesel form will give you low running costs.
