I have a convertable and not sure how to store it for winter.

It will be in a nice garage, so no worries there.

BUT, do I leave it with roof down, or up and fixed closed.

Whilst this may seem a stupid question, there are reasons I ask!

If I store it with the roof up and fixed closed, all winter those tension straps are at full stretch, losing some elasticity come spring and lowering the roof again.

I was concerned that keeping the roof down under the tonnau cover would leave it creased etc, however, all the ones with a hard top fitted for winter are in that situation and dont seem to have any issues. And when it comes to using the roof, all those straps will be lovely and springy!!

So, whats best?

Roofs are definitely better stretched on a frame: the cracks generally occur when folded sharply.

Kept out of light and weather too prolongs the life.

I store mine in an erect (??) position in a dry garage and use a hardtop.

Got an Ashley hardtop on my Midget which really transforms the car. Best hardtop I have ever had and this one must be 40 years old at least. Even has a heated rear screen. Now that's technology!

Glassfibre is great for lightweight strength. Interestingly Ashley were owned by Peter Pellandine of Typhoon, Ashley, Fairthorpe and sundry other 1960's Kit Cars who made far more money from the Spridget tops than any of the cars.

Stored out of the weather in the winter and protected with a good softop restorers product I find softops last far better and for many more years.
