So Vettel needs only one point, and Button needs to win every race.

What totally off the wall circumstances that could produce this result?

Each one of Vettels engines could fail, it's the end of the year, they've all been used a lot. You never know.... biggrin

Bernie sells Red Bull a promise of a blind eye at scrutineering next season if Seb has a few mishaps over the next few races. RB keep their side of the bargain, Bernie then asks for a suitcase full of cash to keep his gob shut and denies ever mentioning scruntineering. RB discover all this just in time for Seb to snatch victory on the final lap this year.

This is all conjecture and fiction of course.....................scratchchin

Taking the question seriously, I can think of one, but it's not appropriate even for a forum, in fact, if I did write it, it may be called "tactless" so I'll let it go. Not taking it seriously, just get Webber to wear the helmet and drive the car of Vettel, that'll take care of the poor performance...Nah, there are no totally off the wall circumstances that I can think of!

I'm not hoping for this scenario but the only way Vettel stands to not win the title is if he gets an injury in the next race that puts him out for the rest of the season.

Possible but very unlikely.

Other than that, there is probably a one in a million shot of him losing his nerve and screwing up the last few races but I wouldn't put more than a pound on that scenario.

Plus, of course, JB would have to win all of the remaining races. The two probabilities combined are, as you say, in the millions, at least.

Its way easier than that. scratchchin

Red Bull simply have to have their wings clipped for having used rocket fuel or some illegal body/exhaust/engine part for the main part of the season, putting the championship wide open for Button, Alonso and Hamilton to fight it out over the last few...

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

Can't Red Bull just get disqualified for turning up and ruining the spectacle? smile

I was going to raise the idea of an injury in the OP but didn't want to tempt fate. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.

A three race ban followed by two DNFs is another possibility, though I don't have any reason to believe Red Bull have done anything to warrant such a punishment.

If he did get desperate and try to punt Button off, then the FIA could strip him of all his points as they did with Schumacher in 1997. Though he's still 4 DNFs from desperate.

Changable weather conditions at all remaining races and LH being asked to try to overtake seb should do it.

LH driving with some passion would do it, he only needs to start next to Seb, make a good start, and race him down to the first corner.

Whilst being strapped in for quali Vetel suffers an impacted testical (crotch strap in the wronge place), he still wins but we get a comedy yes boys over the radio at the end, sort of like John Inman on helium silly
On the podium he gives the old one "finger" and Button who is second totaly misunderstands the meaning of the one "finger" and asks which one it is he has left, left or right, EJ laughs so hard his dentures fall out and bite Jakes arse, Jake bemoans Eddies "nip on bum" which is overheard by a Japanese official who outraged by the use of the racist term "NIP" has the entire F1 paddock arrested on charges of inciting racial hatred and the whole race is wiped from season and we go on to the next race to deside the championship.

wonder what odds i'd get on that bandit

At Suzuka Vettel has a string of punctures and drive throughs putting him way down the field. In changable conditions Glock is having a spectacular race and amazingly in the points. However he is robbed on the final corner of the final lap as Vettel passes him on better tyres and wins the WDC.

I reckon that LH's Ali G stance earlier this year, will finally work, and the FIA will dock Vettel and Webber points for driving a jolly fast car, the naughty boys, and hence mclaren will win the Constructors, and JB will be champion silly
