Now I dont know much about watches and the most I have ever spent on a watch before is about 200 quid.

My girlfriend is keen to buy me a watch for christmas and a TW Steel has caught my eye. Specificaly this one.

So are they decent, worth the money? Anything else the same kind of style (well close to anyway) that I should be looking at for the money?

That is a £100 (max) quartz watch that they are trying to charge over £600 for. That is crazy money for what it is. I assume you are looking new only, your choice would be far wider used. With my £600 I'd buy something like this Hamilton http://www.creationwatches.com/products/hamilton-2... (and get change from my £600!)or have a look at Christopher Wards website at something like this http://www.christopherward.co.uk/watch-type/type-m...

I'm currently on my second TW Steel (see pic). I love the chunky 'U-Boat' style of them, but I wouldn't dream of paying anywhere near £600 for one.

If you're looking for a quartz watch, you should be able to pick a good quality one up from Hamilton or Tissot for much less than £600, and it'll be superior quality and come with a better 'image' than TW Steel offers.

Hamilton Khaki Aviation H77612133 - approx £450

Tissot PRS516 Quartz Chrono T044.417.21.051.00 - approx £280

If it's an auto you're after, I'm sure someone will pop-up with some advise soon because I don't know enough about mechanical watches to help you.

I'm not looking for anything in particular that the thing. I just liked the design of the TW Steel one I posted the link to. I have had a look at the actual watch in a shop here in Aberdeen as well. But I wasnt sure if the price was high for what it was. It seems that it is.

I actually really like the second link above.

Also to answer the question above I would prefer new.

I think it looks like the tentacles of a robot octopus.

if you like this oversize style in quartz I'd go Welder rather than TW Steel, start at about £300, at least it has the U-Boat lineage:

£600 will buy an entry level automatic though: Hamilton/Tissot/Steinhart/C Ward, even Longines not that much more.

Buy something nice with the money, maybe something used that may have some residual value.

Looked at the Welder watches but they all seem to have rubber straps. Don't like that.

I have a 50mm parnis flight deck witch only cost me £75 and has a similar look to the TW steel models. There's dosnt look to be a difference in build quality ether. To be honest TW steels look like a huge ripe off.

Did you see what I did there? Y'know ... It's actually got 'grandeur' in the title ... and it's trying to be something it's not! I'll get me coat.hehe

So not worth it then. Glad I asked.

I think I am sold on this now anyway.

http://www.christopherward.co.uk/watch-type/type-m...

Seems to have good feedback and I really like the look of it. Also seems that if it arrives and I dont like it then it can be sent back no questions asked, which is handy seeing as they can only be bought online.
