Strong Petrol Smell I'n Boot

Sorry I know you want sensible answers like check for leak's split rubber filler tube etc but seriously!! don't sit in the boot there is a perfectly good seat in the front

Mine also smells of petrol upon initially opening the boot. Ive checked my tank and all hoses which are new anyway and everything seems fine. My theory is that over the years when re fueling drops of petrol have been spilt on the boot carpet and this where it is coming from. Once petrol has got onto something like carpet yes it soon evapourates but im affraid the smell is still left. I will at some point put new carpet in the boot and see what that does.
