Hi all,

I'm seriously considering purchasing a property to renovate. Everything is good except for a serious issue regarding dog urine odour....!
The only way i can describe it is that you'd think a family of dogs have lived in it and not humans..!!
It doesn't help that the property has been locked up for numerous months and therefore may have exagerated the problem with the lack of ventilation.

The floors in question are downstairs concrete floors. I would be removing all skirting, architrave and also the plaster up to approx. 1m.

Anyway, my question is, is there a product or a method anyone would recommend to eradicate this odour issue or would i be looking to replace the concrete floors, which i don't really want to do as it would be costly.

Thanks,
Neville

Pretty sure I read a similar subject thread very recently on PH homes, gardens etc (i kid you not)if i remeber correctly it was about floorboards, joists and human urine but the solutions may be similar and there was quite a bit of advice offered that could prove helpful to you.

We use Jeyes Fluid for our dog run, smells a little bit like TCP!

I bought a house that had a dodgy smell donkeys years ago, so junked the carpets and cleaned the floor tiled with proprietary product. Just can't remember what it was all those years ago.

A quick search on google for "removing dog urine smell from concrete floor" brings up some common approaches and products. E.g. :

I bought a house that was in a similar state. When I took the carpets up the underlay was soaked in dog piss I actually took photos of it I was so amazed / disgusted that anyone could live in that. I also found knitting yarn sized balls of dog hair when I took the kitchen out vomit However once the carpet and underlay were gone that made a massive difference. I then scrubbed all the floors with neat bleach.

Thanks for the comments.

Apparently i need an Enzyme Cleaner to counteract the acid of the urine. By cleaning it with normal detergent it will supposedly only mask the smell until the heating gets cranked up or a nice warm day.

A company called "Rainbow International" say they will come in and sanitise the whole floor before applying a Urine Neutralising liquid. They won't guarrantee that the smell will go for ever but they are only charging £75 +vat so that's how i'm going to proceed.

Thanks again.
