Have my own company and i'm looking at getting a trade card for B&Q, however on the application it asks to tick what trade association memberships i'm with. Do I have to tick one or can the application be processed without?

If you feel the need to tick the box and you're not a member of anything then make it up. Joining B&Q Trade point is not exactly like joining MI6. They near enough forced a card and membership on me.

wrong forum. but 2x forms of trade ID is fine, headed paper/business card/invoice from a different merchant.

the professional bodies are just an extra bit

I took them a piece of headed paper, and a magazine that had one of our adverts in, and they gave us cards. If only a Halfords trade card was as easy to get.
I went along with a military ID and Halfords at Cribbs Causeway gave me a card there and then.

A couple of REME guys I know did that at the very same store! Seems to be easier in some stores than others.

I had no ID on me when i applied. I was looking around minding my own business when i was approached and asked if i wanted one.

I obviously said yes, he asked if i had any ID which i said no but told him my qualifications. I was given the temp card that day and a week later my real one came through.

Why? Any idea?
Qutie a lot of government ID will get trade cards at Halfrauds. Even I have one. Most seem to want to know if you are some sort of engineer though.

Working for tradepoint, your just need 2 forms of ID if the staff even check

business card and a letter head is fine, you dont need to be in any of the associations.

Make sure you shop out the catalog, and if you need something urgently to check its not order next day only!

Well, I was told they want proof of an engineering background but I was in the area and had a stab. I am a comms/electronic tech so told them and that seemed to be enough.
Lots of other Halfords seem to be more stringent though.

I'd have thought a background as a Mechanic would have been more appropriate than an Engineering background, but as I'm an Engineer I'll have to give joining a go. Are the discounts good then?

discounts vary, its a catalog based system, in the catalog is the equivilant of all the plumbing, electircal, hsrdware, screws. diffrent brands and bigger quantaties,

box of 250 3.5 x 25mm drywall screws, £11.98 in B&Q, £2.38 though tradepoint for 1000.

plaster/wood/ cement etc is much cheaper.

bathrooms and kitchens run at about 15 - 45% off, bathrooms can be ordered in 3 days instead of the usual 6 weeks for retail.

everything is either the same, or cheaper. Obviously nothing off plants and the other more homely stuff B&Q sell.

Defo worth having, saving money and getting better perks for free cant be something to compalin about.

After spending a substantial amount in B&Q throughout my latest house renovation and I am about to embark on another. Is it possible for a private individual to get a tradepoint membership or am I going to have to suck it up again?

Just make up a letter head on your PC with something like "Wolfie Renovations" and get some cheap business cards printed - should do the trick smile. They didn't seem overly bothered when I got my account.

just make up a letter head and if you got a buy to let mortgage take a statement maybe.

cheap bricks and bulks stuff all delivered next day.

Wearing a polo shirt with company name was sufficient enough for me to be offered a card. I get better deals on materials at my local merchant although B&Q usually have decent offers on, especially tools wise.

I presume on the "You Pick" section the discount still applies? Is there anyway of knowing what discount you have received as well?

I am in the process of renovating a property and was advised to get a Trade Point card by a member of staff, l not need to show any proof having a buisness, in fact on a number of times l told them l was a buddying amauter.

yes, everything in the catalog is discounted, you pick is all stuff on the shop floor so you can either look at the prices and compare, or you can be told at the till what the differences is. the main thing with the catalog is to shop from it, alot of things are like for like, so you wont get any money off the B&Q stuff if theres a alternative in the catalog.

i would defo get one if you can, bathrooms and kitchens prices are hard to beat, and you get alot better customer service. 3 day delivery on bathrooms, better than 6 weeks on the shop floor
