Retaining a private plate?

There is a private plate on my car and I would like to take it off.
The DVLA site is a black hole and I can't find what I need.

What do I need to do to retain the plate?

The car is taxed til the end of the Month and is MOT'd til November 2nd.

What do i do?

Just wasn't sure if there was a minimum tax and MOT it had to have.

DVLA seem right on it at the mo. Sent my retention to Bristol recently, and had a new reg, certificate and V5 back inside two weeks. Northampton office actually dealt with it also.
