Hi guys,

I am just wanting a little info please, preferably from other electricians or people with actual experience.

I am currently looking at some lighting for my bathroom.

According to 17th edition regs zone 1 and 2 need to be IPx4 which is fine, obviously these zones are only upto a height of 2.25M from finished floor level. My ceiling in the bathroom is just over 2.5M so is classed as an outside zone.

So my question is, in the outside zones can i fit non IP rated downlights, even straight over the bath? I am guessing from the regs you can, as long as they are no more than 12V AC and obviously RCD protected.

So whats your thoughts, not wanting to 'splash' out on higher rated ones if there is no need. I was thinking fire rated downlights as these are IPx2 which should cover off any steam issues.

Regards

Adam
