Quite fancy getting another 159 Sportwagon at some point next year and have been keeping an eye on prices. Have seen this for sale:

Seems to be too cheap by around £2k. So, scam of some form or is it cheap because it's a 2.2 petrol with no leather? Haven't got the readies yet to buy so haven't called the seller.

Maybe Cat D?

Sometimes traders only explain that when you call them (or not at all)

Does seem cheapish. Wrong engine, wrong colour and no leather dont help though

Not cat D, have checked.

Does resale grey/silver really affect price so much these days?

Doesnt seem 'right' in an alfa thats all. Silvers usually all right for resale in most cars.

In what way is the 2.2 petrol the wrong engine? I really hope people aren't going to suggest a diesel in an Alfa as being right in any way, shape or form.

If you're worried, ask your local AR workshop if they'll give it a quick inspection for a bit of cash. Ask vendor to take it a long.

Or you can get the AA / RAC to do it for you, although pricey. I always think worthwhile for peace of mind if you're worried unless you have a mechanic mate who'll come with you.

Yeah, was considering this, although I've vowed not to get another silver car! Still, for this price...

IIRC the diesels in AR are actually very good and when chipped can deliver great performance.

I guess the big thing is that it hasn't got leather. Imo, one of the things which I like about modern Alfas is the luxurious look of their leather interiors. The cloth interior looks cheap and dated to me.

The engine isn't going to help much either, given that the 1.9 jtd is meant to be fairly similar on performance. Additionally, the 2.2 is meant to give around 30mpg on a mixed cycle, which doesn't seem great when you'd achieve that in something like a 330i on a mixed cycle too, along with far more grunt.

Finally, as mentioned, silver doesn't suit the car, though the resale dark grey does look good.

The 2.2 is by all accounts a cracking unit to have in the 159, however unless your looking at the 3.2 Q4 I am fairly sure that the petrol models are all suffering due to the costs of fuel (hence the low price), add in the fact its not got leather interior, its in Turismo spec and its in a mundane and not particulary attractive colour (even dark grey looks better on the 159) and I can see why its a fair bit cheaper than its oil burning brothers.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone! Not sure I can take another silver car but might give the seller a call.

whatever else you do try the car first.i had a spider with the 2.2 and it was rubbish - hesitant,gutless,thirsty(17-26mpg)and worst of all no soul.i wouldn't have another car with that engine no matter how good it looks.

Yes the engine really is that bad.
