I'm looking for advice and would appreciate any opinions.
I've run the Pilot Sport Cup + tyres since new, but I've been getting woeful mileage.
I have run down all four of the latest set of tyres with a vague idea of replacing them with a set that balances performance with wet weather / marginal conditions safety, and now I find myself in a tight spot, as the rears are a bit thin.
Can anyone recommend an alternative tyre that works? I don't mind cost too much, I'm just fed up with 5k per set from rears and still having to do no more than 50 mph in the wet.

I've got new toyo proxes on my M3, great grip and very well priced. On the 968 ive just got a set of falken 452 which, again, awesome tyre and really well priced. I think both sets were the same price as the set of michelin Pilots on my wife's Boxster S and I don't think the pilots are any better than either.

falkster, which Proxes are you talking about? Also I hardly think the 452s will offer a viable alternative to a semi-slick tire like the Pilot Sport Cup+! Nothing against them but they're just not nearly on the same performance level as the Michelins.
The T1R - as for your comment on the 452, I would have put them on my M3 if they had them at the time and if I didn't rate them I'd hardly put them on my Clubsport. I've had tried many tyres and really think it must be in the mind because my 968 sticks to the road just as good as my wife's Boxster. falkster said:

Why not the R1R's i'd have thought they're a more performance focused tire. As i said before i'm not slagging off the Falkens (i went through 3 sets of Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's, another "budget" performance tire) but you really cannot compare a street performance tire with a track day, R-Competition tire.I must have missed that bit in his opening post? I thought he was looking for road tyres for his road car?
There's only so much a tyre can do on the road and Michelin is a waste of money for the road (clearly in my opinion). Even for trackdays I don't think they'd be my choice - well they haven't yet.

We've run the Yokohama Neova as the dry tyre on our race cars which we run in the Castle Combe Saloon Car series for a number of years. They have proved so successful in that series, that almost all competitors are using them.
They wear reasonably well, and are quite sensibly priced when compared to the Cup Michelins. They also offer a good standard of wet performance that should exceed the Michelin even if they might be left wanting compared to a "normal" road tyre.

All four of my tyres lives are due to coincide with their demise this winter, and I plan to fit a full set of these to mine (I tend to use 3 rear pairs to every 2 pairs of fronts).

If you have 19's on your E92, you might struggle for choice of options. You may even struggle to get stock a short notice for the tyres that are supposed to be available (I recently had a puncture and had to change quickly when I was expecting a month or two to shop around - it was a real PITA)
This was about 6 weeks ago and I couldn't get the new Michelin Pilot Super Sport so replaced with PS2's all round which I had before. Two sets of rears each lasted about 13,000 miles each.

I really want something that's less scary in standing water conditions as I do a fair bit of driving on the A14, which seems prone to this at this time of year.
I'll see what's available. They are 19" wheels too by the way so it looks like that might limit choice.
