Cars that are sort of not really mine.

Thought I should do one of these, In my life time my parents have had a multitude of crappy cheapo cars, first car I remember was a greenish blue Renault Clio 1.4 RT, hateful car, always breaking, then in 2005 my mum traded the clio for a Kia Picanto
(As shown the day we traded it for the Panda 100hp)
Strangely when we handed over the keys to the Picanto I felt a sharp pang of guilt that I was the one who convinced them to sell it and trade for the Panda, and I can honestly hold my hand up and say if I ever came across that car for sale then I wouldn't be able to stop myself from buying it, even though it was only a cruddy little Picanto, I seem to have grown attached to it, it had been there since before I started high school and was there when I started college, hell my blood was ingrained in the fabric of the passenger seat (if anyone buys it don't worry it was only a nose bleed and it was 6 years ago). Sure I was horrible about it sometimes but even when it was being made fun of in high school (apparently it is a Fiat Punto (how that is an insult I don't know)) I was always defending the little car. Sure the Panda will grow on me (and from the sound of it probably end up being mine) oh and on that subject, apparently when I've got a years NCB I'm going to take over the finance payments and become the owner of a 59 registration Panda 100HP in New Orleans Blue. I haven't yet got around to taking any pictures of the Panda but will do sometime. All I've got currently is the picture that the dealership advertised it with. Need to get a picture with its own PH smiley.
Right now on to the cars my dad has had, not quite so attached to these, I think what did it with the Picanto was that I was in it basically everyday and it never let me down once. Apparently my dad (this is just while I've been alive) used to have a 3 door clio (yes they both had clios) then I think he traded that for the pile of hatefulness known as a Kia Mentor (at this time they went to the same dealership)

Absolute crap box, after having that until 2004 he traded it in with a gear box where the mountings were almost sheered off. He replaced that with a Kia Rio DY04 RZS, it was a 1.4 Kia Rio LX in blue. Yet another pile of hateful Korean rubbish.

After a couple of years he traded that for DV55 XLJ, a Tropical red Kia Rio 1.5CRDI LX. Not quite such a bad car, (by this time Kia build quality had improved but not to current standards) even though it was the next model up from the Picanto overall the car felt more cheaply built, the picanto had body coloured door moldings where as the Rio has black door strips.

All was well and good and he was quite happy with that until one day we went looking in one of these car supermarkets, the only car that caught his eye was a Black 318i M sport. Looked really well, however; 1: it was a 318, 2: it was a petrol, and 3: it didn't have leather, the search was on. After a couple of months we went to look in our local BMW dealer (in the mean time he had paid off a loan which he had taken out for the previous 2 cars) there was two cars that were possible candidates to replace the Kia Rio, one was a 318d with a cloth interior and 6MT gear box, the other was a 325d, black leather interior and Automatic gearbox, both were similarly priced however the 318 was a 59reg on less miles whereas the 325d was a 58reg on 26k miles. The 325d peaked his interest due to the leather and having never had an automatic thought he would try it out. We took it for a short test drive which was a blast along an A road then back down it, having had an history of hatchbacks and the fastest thing he had previously owned being a mk2 XR2, he was more than impressed (which you would be when it is the fastest thing you've ever driven). So here we are 6 months later with two cracking and completely opposite cars. One a 3.0 Turbo Diesel and the other a 1.4 N/A Petrol engine. The BMW is basically double the car (engine wise) than the Kia was, having read around the 325d is mechanically identical to the 330d, the only difference being that the 325d is a detuned version (which for the difference in price the sensible head would say get a 325d with better spec (say leather instead of cloth) and then have it remapped. If I can convince him to have it mapped' then it would see around 290bhp and I think about 400ibft of torque.
Almost forgot some pictures of the 325d. When I take some photos of the Panda I'll get some better ones of the 325d, bugger is almost as long as the drive.
So basically that is (sort of) my car history so far. Personally I have yet to own a car. I start taking driving lessons in December and once I have the money for insurance will be on the hunt. I'm hoping once I've got a few years NCB I can get something like a Chimera as (according to moneybigshoppingplace) once I have about 4 years NCB the insurance on a Chim would be about £2000, which for a 21 year old living in an insurance risk C area isn't too bad. I can see one thing happening, the parents not being happy about me owning multiple cars while under 20. Because when I'm 19 I'll be getting a MX5 to go along with the Panda (and if I haven't sold it) the (possibly) volvo barge I called a first car. Anyway thanks for reading this. I'll update it when I get some more pictures.

I got a Chimaera(400) shortly after my 22nd birthday. Cost me £1700 per annum to insure, think I had 3 yrs no claims. This was 2006 mind. Do it anyway, everyone will think it's your dads car but it'll still be brilliant fun. Until you spin it outside a chrch, on a sunday morning. Embarassing......

My parents have a 335d and they love it!
Annoyingly I haven't had chance to yet, from what I can tell it is pretty quick (0-60 on the auto is 7 seconds) however it isn't on par with the 330d and 335d, it only has 204bhp which in my opinion isn't enough. However it is an easy remap job up to about 290bhp as I said before. Fuel wise for a 3 litre is pretty good and amazingly the tax is only £165 a year which is exactly the same as in the panda.My parents have a 335d and they love it!
