An amazing GOOD experience with the DVLA!

I received a message from the buyer of my old VX220 Turbo this afternoon. Apparently, the DVLA had sent him a letter threatening to scrap his new VX if he didn't pay a fine due to a private plate on it. The private plate was mine, which was now happily sitting on the M3 that I had p/exed with him - the VX was back on its standard plates.

Naturally the VX owner was concerned, and he also let me know in case I lost my plate. I know it's buyer beware and all, but the chap's a brilliant bloke and I don't tend to go out of my way to be a knob.

Rang the DVLA and enquired about the problem. The lass on the other end was very helpful and told me exactly what the problem was, even though she couldn't "confirm" my information (presumably due to the DPA). Nonetheless, the issue was resolved within an hour, it was just an ambiguous statement on a letter for the car (from what I gathered, the buyer had sent off for his own V5, having lost the V5/C, but put it in my personal plate. Since the combination of VX220 and personal plate didn't exist any more, the system was throwing up an error).

Just goes to show, for all the horror stories out there, there are genuinely helpful people at the office(s) too!
