A bit like a 'what car' section these days, here's my topic regarding my retiring funds. My situation is a follows, I am planning to move and live abroad in the next 3-4 years and I have no pension yet, i'm 29. My current employer does the usual % pension scheme thing but I havent joined. I am getting to the age where I need to have some kind of plan. So I was looking to see if there's any kind of international persion plan that i can contribute to / access when I will live somewhere else. Or should I start with the UK based one and maybe start another pension when I move abroad ?

When my uncle moved to Australia, he had been saving into a UK pension fund (a council job) and therefore got tax relief on his contributions.

He claims to have been able to transfer his fund (not sure how they valued this as he was in a final salary) over to an Aussie pension and under their rules pension income is not taxed. In other words the best of both worlds with relief in and relief out!

This should be taken with a pinch of salt and is far from gospel as he does have a reputation for being a bit of a Captain Bullst, but I suppose my advice would be to check the tax regime of the country you are moving to and the interaction with ours and then what options you would have to transfer etc on any pension you consider.

This I would do with the help of someone who knows what they are talking about (Capt. BS used someone who specialised in moves to AUS).

My plan (tho a bit unclear atm ) is to move either to Romania, where im from orinigally, or to France/Italy. So just wondering if an international pension really exists, the simple google search didnt revealed much.
