My local garage is trying to sell me some Summerstar tryres for my A4 Quattro. Apparently their good (mid-range) Tyres at a food price made by one of the large manufactures. I'm not sure how long I'm going to jeep my car so I'm trying to keep the cost down. Has anyone had a set of SummerStars?

Oh dear.

Personally I wouldn't - it will also reflect very badly on you when you come to sell the car. I for one would be wondering what else the seller had scrimped on in the maintainance dept if I saw a set of ditchfinders on a quality car. I'd be angling for a discount of a similar amount that I'd need to replace them.

ETA: it also appears to be standard practice for tyre vendors to fit some godawful brand of tyre and come up with the standard "they're made by Continental (in this case)/Goodyear/Michelin etc etc". My dad falls for this one every time. rolleyes

If you haven't heard of them before there is more than likely a good reason for that.

Eeeek, yes sorry about the spelling - good old iPhone predictive text while I'm trying to do three things at once!

Thanks for the info on the tyres, I'll give them a miss then! The next option up was Firestone 912's. I've had a set on my MK5 GTi for a month before I sold it and they seemed ok?

If you drive an Audi, you should be able to afford tyres with Bridgestone, Continental or Michelin written on them.

Half way down the page in blue.
I'm not sure whether to trust them more reading that, or less.

(nice to see the keyboard comment taken as a harmless joke. smile)

I think you mean Falken ZE912?

In which case they are highly recommended. I had a set of these on my (B5) A4 Quattro, and they were pretty good, even in the snow.

Why? Do Audi deposit regular sums of cash in their owners bank accounts then?

Work out the cost of tyres per mile, then work out if you want to save a bit of cash on poor rubber.

The only thing with Camskill is having to pay the £10 a tyre for fitting. I'm sure this can be reduced if you know the right people. But unfortunatly I don't!

Yes, but the tyres are usually more than £10 each cheaper smash
