Been digging into the b5 RS4 lovely car.

Anyway I've stubbled over a modification which is called the 3ltr stroker - (video on YouTube)
What an amazing modification. It looks like they really raised the rev limiter too notably.

Is this a common upgrade ? I seem to see most go for remapping but this seems a much more meaty modification.

That's the one. Shame it's all in German though!!!

What power do they produce? What's the rev limit

Dunno, all down to the tune and the size of the turbos used. I should think that the standard KO4's would need to swapped for something with more puff, but I would imagine 500+ bhp is realistic.

Bit more searching .... It's 690 bhp that's some big numbers.

I'd like to see that do a 0-100mpg full throttle launch immense

Some serious transmission mods needed to take that much poke, and I think you'll find it closer to the 0mpg end of the scale wink

I once tested a 420 bhp b5 Rs4 blown away an amazing car. Sadly finances could be sorted in time and someone else bought it.
I'd accept low mpg in a car like that a truely excellent car

Hum, I have a 2.7T A6 which this fits, I can't see the gearbox lasting 5 minutes - i'm afraid to have mine chipped up to 300bhp as I doubt it'd cope.

That's the difference between a chip and actual engine enhancements.
The v6 really dos like to sing.
From memory red line is just over 7k revs but I went a fair way over that due to incredible rate of acceleration took me by surprise.

Also a rev of the engine and the car wobbles/ rocks with the power that's nice. Plenty of power under the bonnet.

The 2.7t engine is a gem. The original S4 was a fantastic car, even on the original map it was very rapid at the time it came out in '98. Could be boosted to close to 300bhp with a simple remap and a better exhaust.

Still doesn't look too bad at all, hasn't dated much in my opinion although the original interior is definitely showing its age. One of very few cars in 1998 to have factory fit xenon headlamps too.

Eh? None of what you just said makes sense as a reply to my feeling that the gearbox wouldn't cope with more power. If it's a remap of the stock ecu or a big turbo and stroker kit it makes no difference to the gearbox. It's still more torque it has to cope with.

As standard the car will rev to over 7000rpm in full auto mode let alone in tip tronic.

A remap of the standard 2.7t in the A6 will see 315 bhp and 380 lb-ft of torque which gives the tiptronic gearboxes a hard time but it's pretty rapid none the less. Upgrade the turbos from the KO3's to the KO4's from the RS4 and it has to be a manual as tip can't take it.

A chipped B5 RS4 or KO4'd 2.7t is good for 520 hp.

A good engine........
