Hi,
My Nissan Navara (current shape) had the head gasket replaced and it failed again very soon after.

I assume head gasket failure is caused by heat? The temp gauge never got above normal.
After the gasket was replaced first time I asked for the stat to be replaced and water pump (might as well whilst it was apart).
This time they are using a genuine gasket so fingers crossed..

In order to prevent this happening again I am thinking about modifying the stat by drilling a few holes thus allowing a small amount of cooling all the time. I appreciate this is not something I should have to do but apparently navara head gsket failure if very common. My aim is to prevent the engine getting fully hot and saving me a huge bill or could I end up casuing other issues?

When the engine was done first time the head was skimmed and pressure tested ok.
we also had the rad flow tested and again fine

Thanks

Dave

Was the block checked for straighness before rebuilding ? Maybe aftermarket gaskets are not as good as OE, but not sure. I would always use an OE gasket on something which takes an age to dismantle and rebuild again.
Good luck in hopefully resolving the problems.

Oh and people say the old navaras were crap, a friend had one of the first of the new shape and nothing but problems electrical, paint , rear axle, gearbox and the engine FUBAR'D it self at about 70k then he put his hand back in the fire and bought another that spent more time in the garage than on the road !!!
I would sell ASAP and buy ranger or hilux sorry to sound negative but apart from they drive well they havent got much going for them..

Cheers chaps.
The Navara is a good truck to drive and a useful vehicle but seems to be proving a little unreliable.

Fingers crossed this time it will be ok especially with my modified stat.

Cheers

You may have just been seriously unlucky and the 2nd headgasket could have been defective.

Hi,
Thanks for the most useless post.

I took a so called mate who said it was ok. He even drove it back from London enjoyed the drive too. Maybe said mate should be sent the repair bill? So called expert mate, I think had his mind on the strippers he is normally found in company with. How are Cindy and Daisy? Can you still picture them in your mind or do you need a refresher visit?
