In an attempt to cure a misfire I am in the process of changing plugs and leads, maybe rotor arm too.

Anyway, the plugs seem to have some sort of cover on them, a suppressor perhaps? Anyway, they are tricky to get off.

So my questions are:

What are they?
How do I remove (other than brute force)?
Can I run without them?
Are they standard, or has a previous owner fitted them?

Thanks (as always) guys smile

What are they? Plug Extensions/Suppressors
How do I remove (other than brute force)? Brute Force, it's difficult to get the angle right tho
Can I run without them? Yes, but I wouldn't as they keep the leads away from the exhaust
Are they standard. Yes

These are the doofers http://www.clever-trevor.net/TVR/Parts_details/E01...
Others sell them, I just used these as an example.
These ones are unsuppressed as I beleive you can't get the suppressed ones any more, but I do recall a thread saying you could now get them.

If you go for unsupressed ones make sure you have some resistance in there or your rev counter will jiggle about (I know mine does now) You can add this resistance through the HT leads (Although I beleive just the King lead would be enough) or through the Plugs themselves (Although I don't know how to check that they are).
I would suggest making sure the HT Leads are the resistive type.

Extenders , standard fit to all RV8's . Should just pull off but you may need to gently wiggle them to get them off. IIRC they stop the HT leads melting.

Make sure you push them back on hard too, there is a distinct 'click'

As was said don't run without them, you just end up with rubber coated manifolds.

As part of your fault finding try running for a short while without any extenders. I had a misfire caused by a faulty extender.
