Hi

Looking to stay in London for a couple of nights between Xmas and New Year. Needs to be

- 2 rooms (Mr/Mrs in one and son in the second room)
- central, preferably with parking
- not a doss house! smile

Can anyone suggest anywhere they have stayed at and would recommend? There are so many but a heads up on the seearch would help

Alternatively do these short term rental apartments work out well in terms of cost?

Cheers thumbup

I have this problem regularly and have never found anywhere which isn't either very expensive, a hole or too far out TBH. I now use Traveodges simply because I know what I am getting and live with the fact it is a box with chipwood wallpaper.

You do have the date on your side as business travellers will be at a minimum that week so there will probably be good deals to be had.

I did stay at the De Vere Devenport House at Greenwich once on a deal and it was very good (even had free parking). Lots of local eateries, a few stops up the line into central London (overground not the DLR) and the observatory is just up the hill. I think I did it through Superbreak and paid £189 for 2 people for 2 nights with dinner on the first night.

Marriott Hotel
147 Cromwell Road,
London SW5 0TH

also has a car park ask to use when booking, 5 mins from Picadilly.
Always stay there when in London because of easy access/car park and access to Central London

What is your budget?

I stay in London regularly for work (ie once a week at least)

Do you like chain hotels or Boutique?

My current favourites are:

Bloomsbury Hotel - Great Russell Street
Park Lane Hilton - (Expensive)
Radisson Edwardian

Not sure about parking at these

My league 2 hotels are

Holiday Inn Green Park
Hilton Metropole (exec rooms are better)

My ones to avoid

Grange Hotels - £36 for breakkie is too much otherwise ok
Holiday Inn Kings Cross - walls made of paper, my bed actually moved when the couple in the next room were a bit vigorous

But, i change my mind every few months.

Hilton Paddington is supposedly ok
Four Seasons in Docklands is nice but a bit far out

Churchill Hyatt is decent value for a 5 star hotel and a good location.....5 mins from Oxford St one way and 5 mins from Marylebone High St with loads of good restaurants and pubs for the evening. It's also got the best Italian Restaurant in London in the same building...Locanda Locatelli

Thanks all clap

This will help my research.

I am not too worried about the style of the hotel as long as it is clean and comfortable. As for price...as cheap as possible without getting mugged/catching some disease etc smile

Seriously 2 rooms for 2 nights in London isnt going to come cheap so I need to watch the pennies.

Does anyone know if these 2 bedroom apartments are cheaper on balance? Any experiences?

For good deals use Hotels-london.co.uk

I link to them via Topcashback and get money back too smile

You will struggle to get reasonable central London for under £130, although I was luck last week and got a Shaftesbury Premier near Paddington for £89.

We are coming into the awards dinner season and that coupled with Christmas shopping means that prices are on the way up as hotels are full

Hello OP

Two suggestions for you...

With my Sister faced with a similar dilemma not so long ago, I offered to sort it and eventually ended up getting them a room for 2 nights with 2 x double beds at the Holiday Inn on Berkley Street. The location is fantastic - it's basically opposite the Ritz, the advanced booking no refund terms might be a problem, but if you KNOW you dates it shouldn't matter.

I got them 2 nights for 4 people including breakfast for £300 total - not bad at all...

Suggestion number 2 would be to go to travelzoo and look at the offer which came out this very afternoon (in their Top-20) for the Westbury Mayfair on Conduit Street - £119 for a Mayfair 5-star on the dates you mention?

I know where I'll be staying as I need the same thing at the same time....

If you're quick you get an upgrade to a superior king room thrown in and also a ''movie package''

here you go...

I stayed in that Holiday Inn 10 days ago. It is a good location, and Shepherds Market is just a few minutes walk away (good food and beer). Added bonus is that its also close to various car dealers. One up the road has 2 Veyron's in the window.

Try the suites at No5 Maddox Street.

Very central, doesn't have full restaurant/bar but great rooms a lot cheaper than an equivalent hotel.

Citadines does mini apartments and they are quite a bit cheaper.

Indeed.

That'll be Jack Barclay - the scene of one of the funniest ever Fonejacker wind-ups....

It's next to RRMC London and I saw those very 2 Veyrons a couple of weeks ago when I parked a company Rolls in their Berkeley Square House's underground carpark...

Alway surprises me how small they look. - I did like the 2-tone blue and chrome one though, though I would take a kack brown if it was offered....

Last night's hotel was The Ambassadors Hotel, Bloomsbury. Very good for £150 including breakfast via London Hotels.com. One of the best breakfasts I have had at a London hotel under £300 a night.

Location close to Kingscross and Euston (did you know those stations are only about 500m apart) so you can get to anywhere in London easily by tube.

Sorry to hijack the thread.
Blueg33, what did you think of The Hilton Metropole and the area?
Also a few recommendations on where to eat would be good too.
Not expensive but say £80-£100 tops for a nice meal without wine would be great.
Thankyou.

Hilton Metropole is average TBH, breakfast is good, the standard rooms are a bit tired (but they hotel is refurbising them). The Metropole is one of the few hotels in central London with a pool. Exec rooms are good and you get use of the club lounge.

Location wise, there is not much there, but it is very close to Edgware Road tube and London is smaller than you think, so I usually walk around the area. Its worth looking online for a real tube map, it will show you how close together some tube stations are. I can walk to Paddington from Great Portland Street, in almost the same amount of time as it takes by tube.

I tend not to eat in expensive restaurants as I am staying on my own for work so its normally about £25-30 as I don't do deserts.

Restaurants in the area are limited mainly to Lebanese ones of one variety or another but actually pretty good although you feel a bit like an outsider. I haven't tried others there, but there is a Vietnamese one that looks ok. There is a great fish and chip restaurant called the Sea Shell near Great Portland Street tube (or a 5 min walk) that I like and was recommended by a top lawyer. Get there before 7pm and its about £14 for 2 courses smile

Again, if you get on the tube to Green Park there are some nice restaurants in Shepherds Market, but the ones around Bond Street are a bit pricey.

For curries, I get on the tube again and go to Brick Lane, but it feels like a long way. You negotiate the price of your dinner in the street before you go in to a restaurant smile

The better restaurants that I use for business lunches are all around Chancery Lane and Fleet Street.
