Prospective S owner.....
Discussion
Hi everyone!
I've just graduated uni and so with priorities firmly in place i'm looking to getting into TVR ownership.
i'm thinking that an S would be a good place to start (Ford or Rover parts, do most myself, cheaper insurance etc)
But what are the things i need to know and look out for when perusing the ads??
Cheers me dears!!

Obviously look at plenty and compare the condition of the different aspects of the car. Mechanics are generally sound PROVIDED they have had regular servicing.
My recent thread 'potential new owner' recieved some very helpful suggestions from PHers.
I wouldn't be put off by highish milers as I bought a 98k S3 a couple of months ago with excellent history and apart from a few niggles which all TVR's will give from time to time, it hasn't skipped a beat or let me down in the 3k I've done since owning it.
Good luck!!
You will love every minute of driving it!!

Assuming you're not a mature student, TVR and under 25 means bigger insurance. I'd get some quotes first. Saying that a Vac student at our place had an S a few years ago - which made 3 in the car park!
S insurance can be cheaper if you go the classic policy route, but you may need to show you have a daily runabout, infact a cheap hack may pay for it's self!
And as everyone else, says get Steve's Book......
There are plenty of threads on here if you do a search as i'm sure most of us have asked the same question at some time or other. If all else fails you could check out Rob at www.findasportscar.com - whilst I ended up buying the first S3 I saw (and haven't regretted it one bit!!!) he is very helpful especially if you don't really know what you are looking out for. But a TVRCC meet is probably the best way to get an introduction to the marque. I'm sure there are plenty of grinning idiots out there (me for one) who are willing to pass on their knowledge(and grins, it is infectious!)Above all you will not regret it.....I know I haven't.
Cheers guys
all very helpful stuff!
Pstruck - thanks i've heard of that book before but haven't been able to find it 'in good book shops' i don't suppose you've got an ISBN number for it do you??
Page3 - cheers for the link to the buying guide it'll make good bed time reading!
stephen (or may i call you pookie?? sounds sooo... humm maybe not!!) - i'll be sure to read the thread and as you rightly point out i was very nervous about the high milage - low ones are very rare indeed, just must be so much fun to drive i guess!!
Gas - don't worry i've got a good track record, i'm nearly 25 and i've got a daily runner. so all good!!
chippy - yeah i'm aiming to go along very soon to the dorset meets (my local) and meeting a few of the grinning idiots!!
again... cheers guys

Hi Bar Steward,
I think everyone's said pretty much everything.. If you need a hand looking at one in the midlands give me a shout. Oh and don't dismiss the 2.8 engine for the 2.9, its not as quick, but the car still looks the same and is just as much fun (and many will run on Super Unleaded with no messing around with additives etc).
Cheers,
Matt.
Edited to add.. your profile says you're in Birmingham.. local Dorset meets..?
