Totally different laws for cyclists
Discussion
First of all, my apologies if we already have a thread for this. My question is since when did cyclists become immune to the rules and regulations other road users have to comply with? I came out of my road one dark morning and all of a sudden realised there was a bloke on a bike in front of me. This was a bloke in dark clothing, with a scarf wrapped around his face and showing no lights on the bike. I drove around him feeling quite guilty while he was shouting remarks about my eyesight being deficient. It then occurred to me that if the daft t**t had invested in some cycle lights and worn light clothing he would have been much easier to see. I wouldn't mind betting that if I had run into him I would have got the blame. Cyclists also have new laws reference traffic lights too. Apparently they do not have to stop when the lights are red (or so it seems). It might help a little if they actually contributed to the upkeep of the roads by paying for the priviledge of using them and if they did not pay their bikes got crushed

Ahem, my bike probably cost more than a lot of cars, I also tax and insure an E39, a 900 Hornet and a Griff 500.
Now who pays the most towards the roads?
I assume then in your case as your bike is an expensive one you probably have the sense to ensure people can see you which would help them to avoid running into you. With regards to your contribution to road cost I too put in my share by paying tax and insurance etc on an FJR1300 and a Ford Fusion. I still think however that cyclists should pay to use the roads. Now who pays the most towards the roads?

Bicycles and horses have a right enshrined within law to use the roads that stems back to the very first roads.
Motorized vehicles have never had such rights. They effectively are banned from using the roads and can only do so by way of a tax.
So your claim that Cyclists should pay to use teh roads is nonsense...sorry to be so blunt.

What utter drivel...Motorized vehicles have never had such rights. They effectively are banned from using the roads and can only do so by way of a tax.
You'll be saying it's illegal to eat Christmas pudding on Christmas day next..
Oh, it is...

PS...the Romans built some of the first roads. Ever seen a Roman bicycle?
Post this in the pedal powered forum and you will soon see that even on PH many cyclists think that laws don't apply to them.
They also go under the belief that because they are riding cycles not driving cars that they won't/can't hurt people.
For some reason many cyclist seem to be angry people with a chip on their shoulder.
(I cycle too and in percentage terms I would say that there are more cycling tossers than driving tossers)

I'm a cyclist, have been for 15 years, work in the bike trade & it REALLY boils my piss when I see cyclists like that-no nights, poor choice of clothing, usually riding bikes that aren't safe etc.
Gives the decent ones a bad name.
I'm obviously in to cars or I wouldn't be on here, but there really isn't an excuse when we sell a basic set of lights for £10!
Bit harsh, but their own fault if they get knocked off-Darwins theory of evolution...
