I have seen a few threads in recent times with owners looking for replacement sun visors due to theirs failing to hold postion. I too was in a similar postion with my driver side sun visor always creeping to the fully down postion, the internal hinge clip had broken some how, I tried a repair but still not good.
I always read that the sun visors were TVR specific, I always found this hard to believe, why would TVR make such a simple item when millions of them must be made each year. So I did a bit of searching and hey presto guess what, they are identicle to .... Ford Capri (also it appears Ford Escort Mk I & Mk II as well).
There are a few subtle differences, Ford item covering has a fine dimple pattern where TVR item is grained. TVR vanity mirror is slightly bigger. TVR fitted the visor to the head rail from the top with screw head bolts rather than from the bottom like Ford with self tappers, therefore TVR pushed in 5mm nut into the mounting hinge pins.
Apart from the above they are exactly the same shape and thickness, the mounting hinge is identicle, the distance between mounting hinges is identicle.
The only thing I did prior to fitting was spray with satin black vynal spray(Ford items are normally 2 tone colour black/cream, black/grey). I tapped in 5mm nuts into the hinge mountings to take the TVR fitting bolts. Another tip, 10 mm blanking grommet fits over the mounting hole covering the bolt end. I did use the original TVR hinge mountings first in the Ford sun visors but found the Ford hinges had a touch more grip.
Hope this helps anyone chasing sun visors, there must be loads of these in scrap yards across the UK.

Interesting and useful information Ozstyle. The TVR specific thing has been assumed for years, but as you say it is a bit hard to belive that TVR would have gone to the effort of making such a mundane item as a sunvisor themselves.
