i had a throughly enjoyable day at thruxton in a single seater yesterday, and am now hooked

please can you tell me if there are any circuits close to the south coast/ south-west where i can take my 1993 series 1 mx5 for a run in a safe (the car is in pretty much immaculate condition ) and cost effective environment

are there any such mx5 specific club events coming up?

Have a look at castle coombe. Or motorsport events do airfield days along the M4 corridor.

Keep an eye out for Mazda On Track events? Or Mx5OC track days?

I don't like Castle Coombe myself bu Motorsport Events do airfield days on airfields around the Bath area.

As Lazza says Motorsports.com are a first class track day organisation and very friendly.
I had a good tussle with a dark green MX5 on a Motorsports track day a few years ago, I was in my Sprint.

We are doing a Club Triumph track day at Goodwood in Nov but I will use my Quantum RST 2+2.
Goodwood is a fantastic old fashioned long circuit where the brave can do good times as all the corners are fast. You can drift your MX like the greats such as Moss and Fangio.

I love Goodwood and it's one of my favourite tracks but it's usually expensive and it's not ideal fir a standard MX5 as they just aren't fast enough.

Back in the 80's I used to hillclimb and sprint my TR5 (which I paid £1300 for in 1980!) and this beastie would see 125mph at Goodwood as you came down to the Shell building and we all would not brake until we reached what we called the iron gate on your left, this was scary but needed, as my best round there in a sprint was 1min 49sec in a standard TR5 with no antiroll bar (TR6 had one)from a standing start.
I cannot do that in my modified sprint the last time there, so must deduce that the bottle has well and truely gone.

If your hooked, and your car is mint i personally would look to just go and get a bit of a track toy, buy a cheap one strip everything out, one race seat in with harness sell all the other bits.....enjoy! without the worry of ending up in gravel or something else, thats all ive done to save the audi anyways...
