Hello again guys.
The thread on the stepper motor had broken away from the body so I orderd a new one from worldcarparts on the net.
Cost £42.00 which I thought was cheap.Fitted it and the car wouldnt idle at all.They sent a replacement which I
fitted and again the same problem.Part no.on their box is ERR5199.Is this me being too tight to buy the tvr one
or are some compatible and some not?

Have you got a photograph of the problem with your original stepper?

Usually you can just 'screw' the thread straight back in (or the cone back on to the threaded part and fix with some loctite).

Also, have you tried watching the operation of the new one whilst it is out of the plenum chamber.

Have someone turn the ignition on/off for you whilst you're holding the stepper. If there's no movement, you could have a different (wiring/ECU) problem.

Chances are the plunger is longer on the replacement. You may need to swap the original spindle into the replacements body or cut the spindle on the new one down. Swapping them over is the best cure,

Some of the Chinese replicas are truely horrible for a range of reasons (shaft length and air leaks around the motor) so you pays your money and takes your choice. Genuine ones are £80 plus, and seem to come in two versions, one costing a lot more. Ive yet to find out what the exact differences are between the two types, they all seem interchangeable to me, but Im willing to be proved wrong.....

Hi there, steer clear of stepper motors from Worldcarparts, they do not work on Griffs!!! I bought one and it would not fit properly, sent it back and got a refund. Purchased another from a reputable source (£30 more) and it fitted and worked perfectly. Regards, Pete
