Possibly the best series of games ever? This for me, is the ultimate in practically everything. It has nice weapons and fighting, which I enjoy, intricate climbing and free-running, which I like, set in an accurate historic setting, which interests me greatly, topped off with great looking characters and an intriguing storyline.
Altair and Ezio are for me, the coolest looking protagonists ever. Not only that, they are some of the only characters in games I actually like, alongside Niko Bellic. The combat is easy but very fun - nothing like slaughtering 20 odd guards and then running off up a building without breaking a sweat
I suppose a major part of the appeal for me is the setting. Much preferable to a fantasy land or a modern-day based game. Granted there are modern day parts, but they are interesting enough.
The other major appeal is the variety of ways you can assassinate your target. I tend to go for a stealthy approach but I love doing stunts (check out ianxofour's eagle strike if you haven't already). This is what kept me engrossed in the Hitman series aswell, another fantastic series.
However the multiplayer part is s
te. Does not appeal to me at all. Tried it, hated it, let me get back to playing as Ezio or Altair please.
Who's getting Revelations then?

Oddly, I played the second one the other day and just couldn't really get into it. Gave up after about 4 hours of gameplay. Horses for courses really (though I did enjoy climbing up huge towers and sitting on the edge - eagle style...)..
Completely O/T...For some reason, you are one of the last people I would expect to a) Have a games console and b) have time for hours of gameplay. You've just broken my image of you...
Don't take any offense as I really don't intend any, but after years on PH you can't help but build mental pictures of people. (I reckon I could pick Soovy out of a line up though)
Back on topic - I've never played the Assassin range of games - can I just start with the most recent or would I be missing out in some way?

Definitely play through the first, otherwise you won't get the story at all. It's only a few quid and is a brilliant game. Most people complain about it being repetitive, which it is, but the story and gameplay are phenomenal. If you even slightly like the first, you will love the other two. It's one of those games where you will know immediately if you love it or hate it.The modern-day sections are irritating, but if you like the game you can quickly get over it.

Yes, love the puzzles! I'm a bit too young (k! my excuse) too figure most of them out though. Some are really difficult.V100 said:

I really liked Assasins Creed. the first one had a great story line in my opinion. Although the actual gameplay itself was a little repetitive!
Only just finished the second one. which was only £6 off ebay
the Gameplay is a lot more varied. and while the story isnt quite as good, it has some interesting twists and turns!
Also makes a nice change to have a decent singleplayer campaign for a nice quiet evening in, and makes a nice change from all the first person shooters

I really liked the modern day bits, walking round the office as Desmond, finding out stuff ect, possibley my favorite bit! 
Just bought Brotherhood for £10 in HMV
And I meant in the first one, when playing through again.
Please can someone confirm what order they go in and what a platinum edition might offer? I can get three different editions from Amazon for just over £30.
