And it hasn't that much to start with !!.

HI all,

I think I have a problem. I went to a local dyno place today which was recommended and is a really top spec garage. THey have a chassis dyno which bolts directly onto the hubs , allegedly more accurate !. Anyway the graph I came out with seems nothing like my car and if the results are to believed my car is definately not working correctly . Heres the graph :

SOme notes :

Its a civic aerodeck vti , Should be 170 horsepower. VTEC at 4800ish and IAB opens at 5800ish.

I have had the car for 40,000 miles and its always been the same.

Serviced many times , my normal garage say there is nothing wrong with it at all from a driving point of view (not told them about lack of power).

Ran on tesco 99 at the moment

K & n filter an integra manifold fitted.

Timing checked and now spot on.

Its a mystery , on the road it feels fast. Also the IAB kicks hard at about 6000, on the graph it suggests this is starts at say 5300 revs !. This cannot be true. It also looks like no vtec at all !.

ANy help appreciated , has anyone ever lost 20% of their power !

I have done an ECU reset and been out on a private road. Bearing in mind the road was really greasy , its difficult to get traction in first.

One note is that I have been comparing my speedo to this one :

Although he is able to do a bit of an agressive start , I guess because its dry.

FIrst vid , pulling slowly away from lights then redline in first and then to 60 :

Second vid , same foot to the floor in second , seems pretty similar :

Are you sure they didn't give you the power at the hubs? (Not the calculated estimate at the flywheel) as if that figure is at the hubs then it would be about spot on.

Yes thats what is a little suspicious. It does say flywheel and I have another printout with 117 at the wheels . However as you say it is spot on if it is a mistake

Not a graph , but he did pass comment that the AFRs were all spot on . Comments coming back were suggested to be a blocked cat or badly adjusted tappets (probably never done before).

It just seems odd comparing against other videos because it does not seem that much different. I have a forum mate who has another dyno and is a bit more of a specialist that the guys in my town. I will have to make the journey and get it second checked and a once over from him.

Are you expecting a dyno, bolted to your drivetrain, to read give the same reading as an OEM spec engine dyno?

Exactly - it could be a slightly grumbly wheel bearing "causing" the HP loss.

I wasn't expecting spot on but -30 HP was a bit of a shock to be honest.

30 bhp, surely it would be glowing red if it was absorbing that much power ?
