When I was a kid my dad always used to take myself and siblings to Upper Broadmoor Road in Crowthorne and that sort of area. Of course we were living in Crowthorne so it was a shortish walk for us... I'm not sure going chestnutting near broadmoor hospital is something you'd want to do if you weren't local, but since no-one else has come up with any suggestions yet I thought I'd mention it!

Anyway if you look here:

From what I remember those are mostly chestnut trees on the right, and there are a few more dotted around that area. There's a few horse chestnut trees in there to I seem to recall.

In the grounds of South Hill Park there are quite a few chestnut trees.

Up Wellingtonia Avenue there is a national trust woodland (on the right just before the bend when coming from Crowthorne) there are a lot of chestnut trees all around the car park

thanks for all the replies

the winner in the end was viginia waters, loads of chestnuts up there, but some need a few more weeks until the really big ones fall. might still go check out the other places.
