I asked about powder coating cam covers and was told it could be a hit or a miss from a few places. Depending on the temp' of the engine bay, it could melt the powder coating after it is done. I ended up painting mine with a product from Frost.co.uk.

I did the cam cover on my MX-5 and it looks great if I do say so myself!

Cleaned it up as best I could with increasingly fine grades of wet & dry paper and lots of elbow grease, then painted it with 4 or 5 very thin coats of High Temp BBQ paint from rattle cans I got from B&Q!

Final finish is very smooth, durable to very high temperatures, and cost me less than a tenner!

I painted mine with wrinkle paint purchased from Frost Auto Restoration. There's a full write up here

I had a set of wheels done there 2 years ago, cracking job...to start with, 2 years later the finish was starting to look very pitted and patchy in places - thats with me cleaning and sealing them each winter and not using any harsh chemicals to clean them. They were much cheaper than anywhere else, I guess I got what I paid for.
