The End of the Peugeot Cosworth
Discussion
Well yesterday on the Cambrian Rally was a sad day for all true rally fans when Andy Burtons Peugeot Cosworth blew its engine on the second stage meaning an early end for the car before it is banned from next year

I only got to hear the car twice yesterday and tbh the noise it made just never wore off and to make it slightly worse, it stopped probably less than half a mile from where I was watching!
Andy has confirmed that he is buidling a new car to the new rules so im really looking forward to what he can come up with, and I hope its just as fast and sexy sounding as the pug.

A loss to British Rallying

Is the MSA trying to kill off rallying in the UK?

A small (noisy) chunk of British Rallying Died for me on Saturday with the final running of the PeugeotCosworth.
never had i heard such an amazing noise on a stage and doubt i will again for a long time, being too young to truly remember GrpB this for me was as close as i'd get to hearing a similar beast through a stage.
i'll always remember my nephew (only 9 a the time) hearing it coming one stage, his words were "whoah, is there a F1 car coming??" and the grin he wore from ear to ear after it hammered past at full chat, bouncing off the limit, ears close to bleeding.
And his reaction after an GrpN Evo came through after Burton “that ones crap, bring the F1 car back”

Each rally i took him too after would always be started with “is that fast loud car coming?”
Never will a GrpN Evo or Impreza ever compete with the thrill/sound of an apoaching/arriving/passing/ PeugeotCosworth. The gear whine and farting antilag on a modern GrpN by comparison is dull and limp.
Looking at the ‘yoof’ of today and how influenced they are by loud fast cars, banning Burtons car was a big Fup by the MSA/BRC. Besides Millington or high spec Mk2 Escorts never do you hear ‘that sounds amazing’ for any other car currently running in the BRC
I hear a rumour that the engine will be used next year in a different car, but that following the damage on Saturday (rod through block?) Burton is going to have to mill a brand new block.
Can't wait to see what he turns up with next, but I wish I'd seen the Pug again this year before it was retired. Hopefully it'll still make appearances at Rally Day or Goodwood.

I have a Flickr group here just for the Pugworth http://www.flickr.com/groups/1556230@N20/
If anyone has any pics they would like to add and share that would be great!
My first memory of seeing (And hearing!) the car was on the Chargot stage at the Somerset Stages in 2004. The commentator went quiet quiet and I just could not believe the noise that I was hearing! Burton took the right hander in one big power slide and left the valley in one huge dust cloud that barely cleared for the next couple cars, and I was just instantly hooked!
The car has always had its problems and ive cursed it many a time when it hasnt even made it to a rally or its gone out after afew stages, but when it worked there was nothing like it, and is probably the closest il ever get to group B rallying!
Heres a couple videos ive taken of it this year!

Even the most modern Focus WRC on a club event sounds flat in comparison. They really seem to bog down before picking up & taking off whereas the Peugeot just screams everywhere.
For me, the only thing i have ever heard that beats it is the sound of an Ex Works Gp B Sport Quattro being driven as Audi intended....and i've only heard that once

Anyone remember the Alfa-Ferrari he had before the Pugsworth?
