Surely this can't be for real, £175k for a '70s custom MkII Jag?
Anybody know anything about it, and to why the asking price would be so much?

If he was he should have taken it as quickly as possible!
Exactly - £54k back than is the equivalent of about £500k now with inflation, for what would have been a ten year old MkII with E-type running gear and s
t alloys. I can think of better things to spend the money on, such as a bulk delivery of horse s
t.I do love Jags, but it must be said that classic Jaguar owners are amongst the most dillusional.
I remember about 12 years ago- a scabby series 3 XJ with paint peeling off and a mouldy interior- the guy wanted over 2000GBP. Me and a friend were phoning him putting different voices on making progressively lower offers, until he snapped and said " I wouldn't give it away for that much!".
"GIVE it away? What? Well giving it away would probably be reasonable".

As a comparison, I bought a lovely unmolested 1959 3.4 manual overdrive Mk 1 back in 2005, one owner and 18,000 on the clock, for £7,000. All it needed was tyres (sitting 6 years since owner died) and a service plus a couple of hoses and she purred. A molested car like that I'd put at £6,000 before the rebuild, depending just how rotten it is or isn't as the case might be. Those Wolfraces are the pits!

i think theres a bit of keyboard tourrettes at play here and he keeps adding an unecessary '0'
Assuming it comes with the plate, and depending on what state exactly the engine is in, £17.5k sounds like a good deal. Plate for £11k, engine for £5k+, webbers plus inlet for £3k, gearbox £1k plus whatever the shell/interior is worth.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
