Tyre recommendation please (Hybrid)

I have a Boardman hybrid with the standard continental tyres it came with.

They are slick down the centre.

I fell off today (on leaves) and wheel spinned on wet grass. Any recommendations for a not too knobbly tyre? Also anyone know what width I can get away with it will just be for the winter.

Kinda depends on the routes you take. I use my hybrid almost entirely on paved sufaces so I have a Conti slick (Gator Hardshell) but I have some Conti Cyclocross Plus in the garage for when we start riding over the shale surfaces and towpaths.

I used these for a 75 mile off road ride a couple of weeks ago. Enough nobbles to give you some grip on loose/slippy inclines but not too much added drag either. No punctures (yet) and a sensible price.

They appear to have exactly the same tread pattern as the Conti Cyclocross I have. I only chose those because they come in a "plus" format which gives puncture protection.

ETA: But I think they are only available in a wire format and are as expensive as the folding ones you listed.

P.S. OP be careful about width. My hybrid's chainstays only just clear these tyres in 700x35. I think that's as narrow as they go. Schwalbe seems to do some in narrower sizes - I didn't find that out until I'd bought mine.

How about using some all-weather 25c Specialized Armadillo tyres?

I have them on my Sirrus and they are fantastic. Very puncture resistant and good grip in wet weather. They also don't wear very fast. I've done several thousand km's on mine and they're still going strong.

That's interesting, my experience of Armadillos are that they are excellent against punctures, but are quite heavy and don't wear that well as they are "layered" (according to my bike shop).

I think my rear did something like 2,000 miles (with some skidding!). Fronts last longer (less skidding!). Not too bad, but not that brilliant.

Experiences will vary but for what you pay in comparison to conti's or other brands, they do very nicely. Either way, for hybrids, puncture resistance is top of the list after grip. Wear is not a huge concern as there is nothing worse than commuting somewhere and getting a puncture.
