Can I have my tools back?

I've tried this on the Le Mans forum so thought I'd try it here...
I'm sure you must have lost my mobile number, else you'd have called, so here's my contact details via pistonheads.
For those of you wondering what I'm talking about, here's the story:
Whilst travelling in convoy on Thursday on the way down, my mates griff broke so we were left in the services about 70m south of Calais with my yellow S4 avant. A young girl came round looking for tools to tighten the rear sparkplug on their green chimp so I lent her my small toolkit. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a sparkplug spanner but they managed to do a bit with my long-nosed pliers. They asked to keep them until they could find the right tools, so I gave them my mobile number and they said they'd call me at Le Mans.
So far, no call. (Where have we heard that before??)
I'm sure they've lost my number, else they'd have called, chimp driver and all that... If anyone knows them on here, please remind them! Its only a couple of quid for the pliers, but its the principle!

I am afraid i think you may have been conned. They are quite famous in TVR circles. They are known as "The green chimp gang" and i am sure many posters on here would have fallen prey to their wicked ways. Spark plugs this year, last year it was stepper motors.
They basically dupe helpfull motorists into giving them tools etc and then pack their bounty into a lead lined container, where it is shipped to Africa and sold on the black market..... sorry to be the bearer of bad news mate.

My brother said at the time that tools are like books, its better to give than to lend and the end result is the same!!!
Sad part is, I wouldn't have lent them if they hadn't been driving a Tiv or something similar.
I'm sure its an oversight on their part. If not, I'll have to start describing the individuals concerned until someone recognises them!!! Now that will be fun!!!
I'll wait in anticipation...

but I'm such a quiet shy little chappieI have been caught so many times like this that I stopped lending things like tools and generally helping people. Recently, I saw a Chim broken down on the other side of a dual carriageway. Despite my “anti getting taken for a mug” rules being in place, I went to the next roundabout and went back to see if I could help. As luck would have it I could, a little bit of temporary wiring got the car going again. I was not expecting any money or a bottle of Bacardi, a simple thank you would have been nice. Sadly the chap said no such thing, only that he was now late and drove off leaving me and Mrs Ribol looking at each other in amazement.
Moral of the story – I thought the TVR bit in the equation would have made a difference, it didn’t. Hope you get your tools back, remember not everyone out there is a scumbag although it sometimes seems that way.

jesus mate - thats shocking. What a complete arsehole. Of all marques I have come across I have found TVR drivers to be the best of the bunch when it comes to helping each other out. I have always stopped for fellow TVR drivers if I see them broken down and indeed helped a fellow PHer the other week by spending an hour changing the battery on his chim as he had a bad back. He was most grateful and presented me with a bottle of wine. Nice gesture as a thank you was really appreciated.
Really sorry to hear of both these stories. Please don't let it change your views, it would be a sorry day to see TVR owners lose that special relationship.
Got another one for you. When I was 14 I worked in a car spares shop as a Saturday boy. A family on their way on holiday pulled up in their Austin 1100 with smoke bellowing from under the bonnet. The dynamo had seized and the belt was burning up, quite common in the good old days. The bloke who owned the shop said he could sell him the Dynamo but we could not fit. Feeling sorry for the bloke and family I said I would do it in my lunch break. I took my break early and started fitting it, as soon as I touched the first nut it started pi55ing down big time. Undeterred I carried on, soaked from top to bottom but at least I got it done. Whilst I was working the dad went to a café to buy teas for the family, he did not get me anything. When I finished and closed the bonnet he drove off without even saying thank you. Before you say it, he knew 100% I was doing this in my own time and nothing to do with the shop.
I have enough stories like this to fill Ted’s bandwidth, sadly I still get caught out today.
