Wish List – Sky Sports F1 Coverage

I know there is a huge thread running regarding the future of F1 coverage in the UK but ultimately it seems this is a done deal and unfortunately there’s little we can do about it now.
I think the BBC have absolutely nailed F1 coverage since ’09 – across all platforms – which is why it’s such a shame to be losing them, bar a highly trimmed back highlights package. As such I thought it would be interesting to see:
a) What features and personalities do you definitely not want to lose from what the BBC F1 team currently offer (across TV and online)?
b) What new features would you like to see added?
I feel we’re just going to have to accept that Sky are the de facto F1 coverage team from next year in the UK (bar foreign decoders etc etc) and I don’t think they’re going to do a s
t job. They’re currently consulting as to what I pose above so maybe someone from their team will pay attention to what the fans want.
Please don’t turn this into a rant thread on why you won’t pay Murdoch – the other thread has that covered. Keep this focused on making the best out of a disappointing situation.

Absolutely. I think Brundle and Coulthard have a great relationship which comes across and the commentary is the best it's been for years (despite DC's occasional Red Bull bias).
I hope a decent pay cheque would sway them however as I understand the Sky commentary will feed into the BBC's coverage as well as continuing the world feed they currently provide.

Unfortunately I think it's unlikely that Jake H will go to Sky as he's got the Olympics gig next year. Guess it depends on how much he loves F1 vs sport in general as I presume he'll be the lead sports presenter for the BBC following that.
The chemistry that he, Eddie J and the rest of the team have is great and I hope that can continue as it seems they have good relationships with the paddock which leads to great access. Same with Ted Kravitz as he always has valuable things to add feature wise as well as during FP/Qually/Race.
More in car camera options on the red button/online as well as the driver tracker would be great.
Also I think the Forum has been one of the best additions to the package since '09.

To justify their claims of 'bigger, better....' etc - for a start don't just pinch the Beeb crew! I'd like to see them stay together at the Beeb and provide the 50% live coverage + whatever for the rest, it might even suit MB since he clearly likes to duck a race or two, certainly has in previous years.
Not to dumb it down - from what I've seen of Sky sports, some of it is very good, some ok and some awful (nothing new there, probably a trueism for any broad range of ooverage) - you either want F1 for the existing demographic or you want a different sport
I can see the danger being them trying to sneak in advertising and/or revenue opportunities at every turn, for instance showing FP1/2/3 on an extra sports channel that you have to buy the whizzo package to get.
Not to follow ITV's example of shunting it around to favour the lowest common denominator of broadcasting, ie football and soaps (okay, the later not likey to happen on Sky Sports 2, 3, 3000....)

This...I could live with dire commentary, I could live with dumbed down pre race build up... Adverts however... That would ruin it for me.
The trouble is that the Beeb have got it right by luck or judgement, there is pretty much nothing I would change at all.

Correct, but the words "next year" were very carefully added to that statement.DC still has a contract with BBC for next year, Brundle is a free agent but I'm not sure he will go - he has confirmed he is working on a LeMans project with Alex and already has a couple of other drives lined up for next season. I wonder what Alex will do next year, currently in F2 - maybe Martin will like to be around a bit more for his racing ?
Clearly Martin loves racing and F1 and was less than impressed with the BBC/Sky deal and apparently made his feelings known to the BBC, so I suspect that he's inbetween a rock and a hard place.
The only way I can see him going to Sky is if he gets a good deal of input in how the show is put together, what the pre-post show contains and basically how they run the whole show.
From what I've read Sky can be quite arrogant and may just want him to do as he's told - I don't think he will be up for that.
Jake is a BBC boy, he wants to do the Olympics next year, he's not going anywhere.
John Watson is already involved with Sky, hence his name gets banded around.

I can just see Motty doing a grid walk in Abu Dhabi wearing the old Sheepskin Coat I'm sure Sky will throw everything plus the kitchen sink at this, but i also suspect they will fall well short of what we're used to, so i'll probably tune in 10 minutes before the lights go out and forget about the build-up.
Uninterrupted race coverage, Brundle/Coulthard for commentary on both beeb and Sky with Brundle grid walks to continue on both too. Other than that I am not entirely bothered how either of them pad their shows out before and after so long as Sky's studio men aren't Keith Hewen and Tony Jardine - they were dire on their Goodwood show...

I hope they ramp up the detail & really get their teeth into the technical stuff without the current "if you're new to F1" that the BBC afflict on us every time they explain the obvious. I'd like to be treated as a hardcore fan instead of a casual viewer although judging by their golf coverage there is nothing to be worried about on this score.
I think that's what they will be aiming for, I doubt the casual fan is going to stump up for the additional costs because of F1.This is an interesting thread for me ATM, it's interesting to hear what the fans want.
It's going to be fking st though isn't it. I like watching the build-up, then the race, then the post-race stuff, but I used to say the same thing about football. I can't watch anything but the 2 x 45 minutes of actual play now because of the fking adverts. They have to repeat themselves and re-cap so much because they go to adverts every 5 minutes that by the time I'm paying attention again, it's back to the adverts. I don't want F1 to become like that. wkers.
