Spark Plugs

Hi all

The "bible" says that spark plugs are hard to get at... but as I was going to do them anyway as part of the rebuild I left them until the engine was back in. Blimey I didn't realise that I would have to grind down a plug socket (thin the walls) to get the socket on.... they are really close tight against the head... anyone else had this problem (2.9 V6) ?

I've not had any problems just use my standard Sealey wall drive socket set with the small plug socket. Did them all this weekend in 10 mins. Just be careful when doing cylinder 1 as the alternator connector is live unless you disconnect battery.

Hijacking post though I also changed the dizzy cap etc and found between the HT leads and cap is a short section of something. Is this just an extended to get passed the heat shield or is it more than that? I ask as I noted the alternative parts list talks about 7 suppressors being needed

Mines 2.8 no problems 1 was aqward none impossible

Just ditch the suppressors and the shield Mark

Remember Jens "less is more"...

I ditched mine years ago...

What size plug socket are u using, my plugs as fitted at the mo are Champion RN7YCC not sure if this is correct yet need to check but the socket size is the old large type 13/16 I think ?

Don't wish to be rude but do you have a cheap socket set? Lower price sockets and spanners tend to be thick and clumsy to compensate for cheap metal.

Never had a problem accessing mine, now the V8... thats a different story!

No offence taken..... thats what its all about sharing experience. However, mine is a Britool set, mind you its several decades old from when I was an Apprentice LOL !
