I'm looking for some advice on a problem with an MOT. My '98 Honda just failed its MOT on a couple of items, the usual handbrake issue and a section of the exhaust blowing. But it also failed on excessive corrosion of the rear trailing arm mounting areas (both sides). The main dealer where I get the car serviced and which did the MOT won't do the welding of the mounting areas and told me on the phone that they can't find anyone who will. In the last 18 months I've spend £2K+ on repairs and service at this garage so I'm a bit annoyed at their level of customer care. From reading through various tales this suspension mounting problem could could cost anything from a few hundred pounds a side to being a write off...

Checking through my files the most recent service (at the same dealer) four months ago didn't identify any issues with the suspension and didn't give any recommendations - if I'd been warned of this problem I would have got rid of the car while it still had a valid MOT. The previous MOT didn't mention any corrosion either. I had the car undersealed two years ago.

I'm planning on speaking to the service manager tomorrow, do I have a case for some form of redress?

Thanks for reading.
