Spare wheel in boot, fixed or just sitting there ?

Should the spare wheel in the boot be fixed or just sitting there ?

There is (was) a strap on the left hand side to tie it down.

Many people do away with the spare and carry a tin of tyreweld instead to leave more room for luggage

Mine's (V8S) held in place with a long bolt. It's screwed through one of the wheel mount holes into nut, which must be fibre-glassed into the tub above top edge of fuel tank.

Mine and others have the long bolt too, I don't think my S2 did though.

My wedge just sits there but is a full size one and so does not move

ive seen the bolt near the fuel filler neck its got a female thread so maby i just need a bolt to attach and hold

However you do it, make sure you do fix the spare wheel. I remember a tale of someone getting some stress cracks in their fibreglass caused by the wheel moving around in the boot...

My S2 had a strap to hold down. My new V8 has it bolted. So same

Just be careful to put it somewhere safe. Tyreweld makes a hell of a mess of your boot if it goes off accidentally! Waterproofs it well though.

One of my engineers had a ful can of that beige building foam empty itself on his back seat, tyre weld has nothing on that stuff! He didn't realise till he got home
