Bought a car last week, hopefully the prev owner has sent of the V5 but for time being I only have green slip.

Tax has now run out.

Have just insured the car over the phone but wont get any documents in the post for a few days.

Question: Whats the quickest way I can Tax this car so I can use it? Doing it online seems to need the full V5 and trying to tax it down the post office doesnt need the V5 (the green slip will do) but needs proof of insurance, correct?

Thanks!

You should be able to do it over the phone tomorrow if the insurance has gone onto the system. Waiting for similar myself while trying to take a car off SORN

Go to your local DVLA office and you should be able to do it there and then if the insurance is in the database. You will get the tax disc instantly that way.

Last time I taxed a car the 'system was down'. But my ins co emailed a certificate of motor insurance, which I printed, so wasn't a problem. Should be fine with that + MOT + new keeper's slip.

My insurers sent me an online certificate to print off and take to post office.Printer doesn't work, however, and online database takes a few days to get updated,so I might have to wait until end of week to drive.
