what a load of wk. What a load of fking bds.

Have you noticed how they're sticking them up on every fking major motorway? It started a while ago, eg at the 'beginning' of the M1, and now they're extending & extending & extending & extending them along each one. Soon they'll be extending the entire length of each motorway. Initially they'll be used for the (a la M25) variable speed limit, then what's the betting 'rolled out' (that's the type of wky terminology they like) to the national speed limit?

  • Speed limit increased to 80 mph
  • Speed limit constantly enforced by average speed cameras mounted on gantries
and then
  • Road charging implemented through the same system.

About time too - this is only legalising what's already happening.

I use cruise control a lot when in areas covered
by average speed cameras - and concentrate mostly on Radio 4.

Three quarters of the price of fuel is tax - why bother ?

The first politician to say yes to #1 and no to #2 and #3 gets my vote.

Because the amount of petrol sold is falling, and with cars becoming more economical, and people moving to smaller more more eco cars (sigh), electric and hybrids etc, the total income from fuel duty will continue to decline, so the money will have to come from somewhere else.

If they do what's been suggested here, there will be an explosion of false plates from the Channel Islands...

Not seen any average speed cameras sited on gantries, except a short section of the M56.

Road pricing is coming Europe-wide via the EU Galileo satellite system...
