Leaking diff!

Hi

It appears that the diff on my 4.5 is leaking (Spots of oil on the carpet in garage) I hope to look in more detail at the weekend. Has anybody had similar problems, if so any pointers etc!

Could possibly be a split gaiter on the shaft between the diff and the hub and leaking some grease.

Could also be the diff of course.

You'll need to get under it .....

If its the diff, is it easier to replace or repair?

Its going to have to come out either way. You'll need to replace the seals which is considerably cheaper than replacing the diff.

Check the breather for leakage, if it is the source there is recognised mod.

You dont have to take the diff out to do the output seal. A puking breather is standard, i have put a length of pipe into a small bottle in the rear arch.
Other than that, the output flange seal, mine is leaking again, you do one side then the other has you! Wouldnt worry too much just check the level and sort it when you can.
