Does anyone know if it is likely that two early 90s Diamond Back mountain bikes will share the same size BB cartridge please?

You might try bikepedia to see if the specs are in there, but at that age I doubt they will be.

Back then the vast majority of bikes used the same size BB

Indeed they were interchangeable.

Sorry to be a pain but the guy who's now bought the spare frame off me wants to know what size the bottom bracket axle should be, short of removing the whole crank assembly does anyone know the standard size please?
