As per the title,

We would like a small resort, family orientated.
A catered chalet is a must, night life not essential but an advantage,(recommendations appretiated)
Doesn't cost an arm and a leg in the last 2 weeks of February.
Don't need flights or any other gubbins.

Over to you.

La Clusaz - off the radar for most brits be we find that an advantage. You may have difficulty with the catered side but I think there are a few.

Chatel in the Portes du Soleil. Chatel's a nice village with some great restaurants though not great for choice of bars when I went there.....used to be very reasonably priced. Gives you access to the Portes du Soleil which is a massive ski area. Chatel itself it lowish so if it's a porr winter it's not great but it links very well with Avoriaz which is high enough.

Le Clusaz fits the bill but it ain't cheap this skiing lark.
Might give it a miss this year and ski local again.Any way I've got 3 weeks in Thailand to look forward too so it isn't all doom and gloom.

I'd agree on this. This was my favourite skiing area when we stayed in Morzine, and seemed nicely off the beaten track away from the main Avoriaz bit which I didn't like at all. There's a lot of skiing to be done even in this small part of the Portes Du Soleil and it's very pretty. Close to Geneva too.

However, if I was looking for something like this I'd be considering Austria. There's a thread or two on here about family friendly small, atmospheric Austrian resorts, which seem to be the "real deal".

+1

Megeve is nice although I haven't been there for a few years and I hear rumours of a Russian take over frown

Please consider La Grand Bornand and more specifically Chinaillon which is at the top of the village at 1300m.
Really great family resort.
